[Bernard Plaçais](http://www.phys.ens.fr/~placais/publication/bernard_placais_CV.pdf) received the physicist degree from the [Ecole Supérieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielle](https://www.espci.fr/fr/) and the master in solid state physics from [Sorbonne University](https://www.sorbonne-universite.fr/en) in 1980. He obtained the PhD degree and Habilitation diploma from Sorbonne University in 1983 and 1990. He is research director at [Physics Institute of CNRS](http://www.cnrs.fr/inp/) (centre national de la recherche scientifique) and works since 1983 at the [Laboratoire de Physique de l'Ecole Normale Superieure](http://lpens.phys.ens.fr/en/) (UMR 8023 of the CNRS). In 2000, he created the [Mesoscopic Physics group](http://www.lpa.ens.fr/spip.php?rubrique38) which he is heading. From 2010 to 2017 he was director of the french [Quantum Mesoscopic Physics network](http://gdr-meso.neel.cnrs.fr/eng/demo-lab/) (GDR 2425 of the CNRS). He is partner of the [Graphene Flagship](http://graphene-flagship.eu/) and editorial board member of [J. Phys. Materials](http://www.phys.ens.fr/~placais/iconographie/JPM_flyer.pdf). He is member of the selection panel of the [European MicroKelvin Platform](https://emplatform.eu/).
