Hélène Fleury
Presentation
Hélène Fleury received her PhD (history and art history) at Paris-Saclay University and is currently assistant lecturer (in visual and cultural heritage, art history) at the same university. As a PhD candidate, she was associated with the CEIAS/CESAH (Centre d’Études Sud-Asiatiques et Himalayennes) at the School of Advanced Studies EHESS, Paris. After a hypokhâgne and a khâgne in Paris (a two-year preparatory programme for the Grandes Écoles), Hélène Fleury obtained two master’s degrees, one in history (Pantheon-Sorbonne University), one in anthropology (EHESS). During several years, she was working as project leader in the fields of culture and youth politics. Her research concerns mostly the reception and globalization of Mithila paintings (worldwide exhibitions, transcultural mediators and the construction of a transnational cultural field), and more widely interculturality and transfer studies. She made four fieldworks in Mithila in 2002 and 2017-19. She was PhD representative of the CEIAS (2015/16), jury member of an interuniversity poetry competition (2013-16), and elected member of the Academic Council at the University of Évry Val d’Essonne (2018-22) and of the SLAM (Synergy Languages-Arts-Music) laboratory board at Paris-Saclay University. Author of 17 scientific publications (book chapters and articles in English and French, of which 11 have been published and 6 in press), she was invited to present her work during 21 international conferences and seminars in Algeria (Tlemcen University), Australia (University of Western Australia), Finland (Humboldt Kolleg, Helsinki), France (Royaumont Abbey, EHESS, Singer-Polignac Foundation, Quai Branly Museum, University of Evry), India (Asian Development Research Institute, Bihar Museum, Upendra Maharathi Design and Craft Research Institute, Bihar Government, Mithila Art Institute in cooperation with the Ethnic Art Foundation, Berkeley), Portugal (Humboldt Kolleg, Lisbon), and the USA (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 50th Annual Conference on South Asia, 2022). She also organized a doctoral conference at EHESS (2016) and co-edited “Les émotions créatives” (with Damien Ehrhardt and Soraya Nour Sckell, Berlin: Duncker & Humblot, 2022). She has been included on the MCF (tenured lecturer) qualification list, section 22 (History and civilizations: history of modern worlds, history of the contemporary world, art and music) since 2025.
