IMT Mines Alès 6 avenue de Clavières 30100 ALES Email: jacky.montmain@mines-ales.fr ### CURRENT POSITION Professor at the IMT Mines Alès Engineering School EuroMOv Digital health in Motion, Deputy director Centre d'enseignement et de recherche en Informatique et Systèmes director ### AREAS of EXPERTISE Artificial Intelligence, Decision-Making Support System, Knowledge representation, Multicriteria analysis, Multi Attributes Optimization, Uncertainty Theories, Approximate Reasoning, Fuzzy Logic Diagnosis and Supervision, Performance Improvement and Optimization, Man/Machine Interaction ### EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND **2000** Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches from the Grenoble National Polytechnic Institute (Authority to Supervise Research Diploma) (specialty: Artificial Intelligence and Control) **1992** Ph.D. degree from the Grenoble National Polytechnic Institute - (specialty: Control and Signal Processing) **1987** Master’s degree from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Ingénieurs Electriciens de Grenoble (specialty: Control) ### ### PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND ### Since january 2021 ### Deputy director of the joint research unit EuroMov Digital in Motion - Our scientific manifesto is: Cross-fertilize artificial intelligence, movement and clinical sciences to uncover health-oriented behavioural and digital plasticity. We focus on "Digital Health in Motion", to computationally understand the aetiology of healthy and unhealthy human movement and its determinants, as a source of inspiration for cognitive automation ### From 2005 to 2021 ### Professor at IMT Mines Alès Engineering School - Laboratory Génie Informatique et d’Ingénierie de la Production (LGI2P) - Director of the laboratory LGI2P from 2017 to 2021 - Leader of the Knowledge representation and Image analysis for Decision Research Team (KID): 16 teachers-researchers, 1 engineer and 15 PhD students from 2008 to 2020 - KID team developed information processing tools and methods to facilitate human decision making, to make it safer and more efficient. The goal was to transform data into semantic entities that support human decisions, i.e. actionable knowledge. Three themes were distinguished Knowledge discovery and representation (from character strings to concepts); Image analysis (from pixels to informative primitives); Decision-making (decision-making support and operational research). The KID team therefore contributed to the scientific uniting project of the laboratory: Cognitive Automation - Setting up the LGI2P application forms for the Evaluation Agency for Research and Higher Education (AERES) in 2009, 2013 and 2020 - Leader of the Research Project MATRICS (Multicriteria Analysis Technics for Risk Investigation in Complex Systems) until 2008 - PhD supervisor (17 and 4 underway at the present time) - Current research topics: machine learning, hierarchical classification, word embedding, natural language processing, multicriteria decision-making, group decision, approximate reasoning (ontology based inference and fuzzy representations), fuzzy integrals - Contributor or coordinator of research projects in the field of data-processing, clustering and classification techniques, preferences modeling, knowledge representation, and natural language processing... ### From 1999 to 2005 : ### Research Engineer at the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), loaned to IMT Mines Alès in a mixed research unit on Complex Systems CEA Senior Expert in the filed "Mathematics and Computer Science – Process control and Signal Processing" – topic "Decision in uncertain environment”. - Leader of the Research Team Knowledge and Complexity (11 teachers-researchers and 8 PhD students) until 2004 and later, Leader of the Research Project MATRICS at the LGI2P laboratory - PhD supervisor (5) - Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) from the Grenoble National Polytechnic Institute (Authority to Supervise Research Diploma) - specialty: Artificial Intelligence and Control – HDR Topic "Process Control and Artificial Intelligence Representations for Industrial Supervision" (2000) - Founding member of the research group IMALAIA (french GdR Control research network) – Field of research: a comparative analysis of the model based diagnosis approach from the Artificial Intelligence and Automatic Control perspective ### From 1991 to 1999 : ### Research Engineer at the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) at the Marcoule Site (South of France) - PhD supervisor (4) - Coordinator of the SUP-R2 Project since 1995 (80 man-month project) on behalf of the La Hague nuclear reprocessing plant: on-line diagnosis and supervision in nuclear industrial context ### From 1988 to 1991 : ### PhD student at the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) - Specialty Process control and Signal Processing from the National Polytechnic Institute - PhD thesis topic: Causal reasoning and qualitative modeling for the on-line diagnosis of continuous industrial processes
