Présentation
Dr Laurent Canale, CNRS Research Engineer, Mission Head of the University of Toulouse 3 delegated to Environmental Management and Energy Transition, was born in Saint-Martin d'Hères in 1972, he obtained his Masters in Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Automation, telecommunications option, in 1996 at the University of Savoy, his DEA in High Frequency Electronics and Optoelectronics in 1998 at the University of Limoges and defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Limoges in 2002. He is now Research Engineer at the CNRS at the LAPLACE laboratory, Toulouse (France). In 2004, he obtained by competitive examination the position of Research Engineer at the National Institute of Agronomic Research in the BioEmCo laboratory (Bio-geochemistry of Continental Environments) before joining the CNRS in 2010 at the LAPLACE Laboratory. After specializing in semiconductor physics, then a thesis in materials sciences applied to optical telecommunications, he specialized in science and technologies of light sources and lighting systems within the Light and Matter team (LM). Its field of expertise extends from semiconductor physics to optics, including power supply electronics, telecommunications and lighting systems applications and their impact on energy consumption, smart-lighting, 5G and telecommunications, the environment, ecosystems and humans, health, etc ... from the light source to applications and their impacts. He has published more than 60 articles in referenced scientific journals (index H = 12 according to scopus), more than 190 communications in national or international conferences as well as popular scientific articles in various books. He has supervised 4 doctoral theses, 2 of which are in progress, as well as around ten co-supervisions of PhD students. He is currently the coordinator of a Hubert Curien Program "Maghreb" called "MELINA" (Mastering Efficient Lighting In North Africa) with Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria and of a PHC Nusantara with Indonesia. He has also been Regional President of the French Lighting Association since 2014, Senior Member of IEEE since 2019 and President of the ILDC (Industrial Light and Display Committee, IEEE, USA) since 2023.

Dr Laurent Canale, Ingénieur de Recherche CNRS, Chargé de Mission de l’Université Toulouse 3 délégué à la Gestion Environnementale et Transition Énergétique, est né à Saint-Martin d’Hères en 1972, il a obtenu sa Maîtrise en Électronique, Électrotechnique et Automatisme, option télécommunications, en 1996 à l’Université de Savoie, son DEA d’Électronique des Hautes Fréquences et Optoélectronique en 1998 à l'Université de Limoges et soutenu sa thèse de doctorat de l’Université de Limoges en 2002. Il est aujourd'hui Ingénieur de Recherche au CNRS au laboratoire LAPLACE, Toulouse (France). En 2004, il a obtenu par voie de concours le poste d’Ingénieur de Recherche à l’Institut National de Recherche Agronomique dans le laboratoire BioEmCo, (Bio-géochimie des Milieux Continentaux) avant d’intégrer le CNRS en 2010 au Laboratoire LAPLACE. Après une spécialité en physique des semi-conducteurs, puis une thèse en sciences des matériaux appliqués aux télécommunications optiques, il se spécialise en science et technologies des sources de lumière et des systèmes d’éclairage au sein de l’équipe Lumière et Matière (LM). Son champ de compétences s’étend de la physique des semi-conducteurs à l’optique en passant par l’électronique des alimentations, les télécommunications et les applications des systèmes d’éclairage et leurs impacts sur la consommation énergétique, le smart-lighting, la 5G et les télécommunications, l’environnement, les écosystèmes et l’humain, la santé, etc… depuis la source de lumière jusqu’aux applications et leurs impacts. Il a publié plus de 60 articles dans de revues scientifiques référencées (index H=12 selon scopus), plus de 190 communications dans des conférences nationales ou internationales ainsi que des articles de vulgarisations scientifiques dans divers ouvrages. Il a dirigé 4 thèses de doctorats dont 2 en cours ainsi qu’une dizaine de co-encadrements. Il est actuellement le coordinateur d’un Programme Hubert Curien Maghreb MELINA (Mastering Efficient Lighting In North Africa) avec le Maroc, la Tunisie et l’Algérie et d’un PHC Nusantara avec l’Indonésie. Il est également Président régional de l’Association Française de l’Éclairage depuis 2014, Senior Member de IEEE depuis 2019 et Président de l’ILDC (Industrial Light and Display Committee, IEEE, USA) depuis 2023.
