Présentation
My research focuses mostly on linking petrology, chemistry, rheology and morphological characteristics of volcanic landforms. I have developed an expertise in laboratory techniques and more recently I have been developing a unique instrument to measure lava viscosity on active flow field. Through the years, I also have been working on improving our ability to reconstruct the history of past eruptions (i.e. dynamics, ascent rate, flow emplacement etc…) from field observations and rock analyses as well as using numerical modelling. In particular, I have been working on andesitic effusive historical eruptions in Mexico, where I started to focus on the relationship between volcanic environment and population and linking volcanology and archaeology.
More recently, my researcher interest has been to develop operational models and techniques to respond to lava flow inundation during eruption. More specifically, I operate a near-real time response protocol to anticipate lava flow trajectory when eruption occurs at Piton de la Fournaise (La Réunion, France). This protocol allows me to model lava flow path, based on evolution of the thermo-rheological properties of lava and fed by satellite and field data. By integrating geographic information systems, the product of this work flow is a hazard map that is shared with authorities and serves as a support for decisions making.
