My doctoral research focuses on dependency studies and the political economy of the Global South. This research aims to understand and analyze the role of the Palestinian commercial bourgeoisie in the national liberation project in the 1967 occupied territories. Specifically, I investigate how the class of major food merchants and producers in the West Bank interacts with colonial pressures, using their experiences as a model to explore broader concepts of dependency, national bourgeoisie, and comprador, in the Global South. My project seeks to move beyond a purely economic analysis, adopting a holistic approach that considers the complex interplay between economic, political, and ideological factors in shaping the Palestinian bourgeoisie’s role.
