First in Iraq (Larsa-'Uwaili, Kutan, Tell-es-Sawwan, Haradum), then in southeastern Turkey (Titris Höyük, Tilbeshar), Oman (Ras al-Jinz), Syria (Tell Feres) and since 2014 in Iraqi Kurdistan (Girdi Qala and Logardan) where he found evidence for an early emergence of urbanization. Since 2019, he is the director of the Larsa-‘Uwaili mission that has resumed its fieldworks in southern Iraq.
