Eric Lichtfouse
Présentation
Eric Lichtfouse, Professeur Distingué à l'Université Jiaotong de Xi'an, Chine, Membre de l'Académie Européenne des Sciences, est le pionier de la dynamique du carbone du sol au niveau moléculaire, et le fondateur de la chronologie moléculaire d'échantillons uniques, une nouvelle discipline basée sur la découverte de plusieurs compartiments temporels d'une même substance organique, un alcane végétal, dans un même échantillon de sol. Pour cela, il a inventé une nouvelle méthode, la datation au carbone 13, permettant d'utiliser les substances organiques comme des horloges moléculaires pour mesurer leur age relatif. La chronologie moléculaire d'échantillons uniques ouvre des nouveaux domaines de recherche dans toutes les sciences biologiques, géologiques et environnementales étudiant la matière organique complexe. En particulier, ses découvertes sur la dynamique moléculaire des sols sont essentielles pour augmenter la séquestration du carbone dans le contexte du réchauffement global, et pour réduire les maladies induites par les contaminants environnementaux. Il a fondé l'association européenne de chimie environnementale, la revue Environmental Chemistry Letters, les collections de livres Sustainable Agriculture Reviews et Environmental Chemistry for a Sustainable World, et la lettre de nouvelles Publier La Science. Il a également dirigé la revue Agronomy for Sustainable Development et une cellule d'assistance à la publication. Il a organisé des colloques internationaux en chimie environnementale, isotopes stables, matière organique du sol, substances humiques, hydrocarbures aromatiques polycycliques, séquestration et conversion du carbone en énergie et produits chimiques, en France, aux Etats-Unis (ACS) et en Chine. Il est vice-champion du monde de XTerra et médaillé en bronze aux championnats du monde ITU de cross triathlon, dans sa catégorie d'age. Né à Strasbourg, France, en 1960, il obtint le baccalauréat D math et sciences de la terre à l'Institution Robin à Vienne. les diplômes de Technicien Chimiste à l'IUT de Grenoble en 1982, et d'Ingénieur Chimiste à l'EFT/ESCIL à Lyon en 1985. Il obtint également une license de chimie en 1984 et un DEA de chimie organique en 1985 à l'Université de Lyon 1. En 1986, il réussi à mettre au point des nouvelles formulations de confitures et pâte d'amande allegées en sucre, mais échoua à stabiliser la mayonnaise d'amande, dans l'industrie agro-alimentaire de la société Perlamande. Ensuite, son travail de thèse à l'Université de Strasbourg et à l'Institut Français du Pétrole de 1986 à 1989, mena à la découverte de nouveaux fossiles moléculaires, des stéroïdes triaromatiques, dans les sédiments et pétroles du bassin de Paris. Ces fossiles permettent de mesurer la maturité de la matière organique sédimentaire. Il effectua deux stages post-doctoraux en géochimie isotopique et marine à l'université de l'Indiana et au centre de recherche de Juelich, Allemagne. Puis il effectua 30 ans de recherche sur la dynamique moléculaire du carbone et des polluants dans les sols, les eaux, les plantes et l'atmosphère dans les universités de Paris (UPMC), Nancy (ENSAIA, INPL), Bourgogne et Aix-Marseille. Retraité de la recherche française en 2023, il réussi au plus haut niveau le concours des talents du ministère chinois des sciences et technologie et fût recruté professeur distingué à l'université Jiaotong de Xi'an au sein du laboratoire d'ingénierie des flux multiphasés de l'énergie, dans le centre international des énergies renouvelables. Son équipe étudie la pollution et la séquestration du carbone en ville avec les isotopes du carbone, et a présidé le premier Xi'an Carbon International Meeting en 2025. Il est titulaire du Prix de la Chimie Analytique de la Société Chimique de France, du Grand Prix de la Chancellerie des Universités de Lorraine, et d'une récompense éditoriale des Essential Science Indicators.
