Dr. K. Loubière has received her PhD diploma in chemical engineering from the INSA Toulouse (bubble formation and gas-liquid mass transfer in wastewater biological treatment) in 2002; her thesis was awarded by the French Society of Chemical Engineering (SFGP) in 2003. After several post-doctoral positions, she has entered the laboratory GEPEA (UMR 6144, Saint-Nazaire) in 2005 as CNRS research scientist to work on design and modelling of advanced photoreactors for microalgal cultures. In 2009, she has joined the department “Science and Technology for Process Intensification” of the laboratory LGC (UMR 5503, Toulouse). Her research activities have as their common thread the understanding of transfer phenomena and their couplings within reactors, and the objective of developing methodologies to aid in the design, operation and/or the extrapolation of intensified processes. During the last decade, they have been applied to research questions dedicated on the one hand to mass transfer (reactive or not) through gas-liquid interfaces, most often in confined geometries, and on the other takes part in the engineering of reactors dedicated to preparative photochemistry and their intensification (flow photochemistry). On this last theme, she has developed approaches combining specific experiments in microreactors irradiated by LEDs, and engineering modeling tools for photochemical reactors. This dual methodology has been used in particular to better understand the coupling between phenomena (light, kinetics and transfer phenomena), to acquire kinetic data, to define optimal operating conditions and strategies for smart scale-up, and this for a varied spectrum of photochemical syntheses. In 2018, Dr. Karine Loubière organized the CNRS Thematic School dedicated to preparative photochemistry (https://photochem.sciencesconf.org/ ). A final aspect of Dr. Karine Loubière's research activity concerns dimensional analysis and the extension of its theoretical framework to variable physical properties. The research of K. Loubière has been demonstrated through the publication almost 50 articles in international journals , 2 books, 2 patents and almost 100 communications in national and international conferences (including 18 as invited talks). She has co-supervised 11 PhD students, 1 postdoc and more than 40 other students. She also teaches courses (about 50 face-time hrs/year) on heat and mass transfer, gas-liquid reactor design, and photochemistry in the form of lectures and tutorials, in engineer schools in Toulouse and in continuing education for professionals. She has been member of 22 PhD thesis committees. Over the last years, she had several opportunities to work closely with industrialists (including both equipment manufacturers and production) through industrial research and consulting contracts. Most of these contracts dealt with issues related to batch-to-continuous transfer of organic synthesis. In addition to these industrial research contracts, she has been actively involved in or led major research contracts funded by public entities (university, OSEO, EU). From 2012 to 2021, she has been an elected member of the National Committee for Scientific Research of the CNRS (INSIS, section 10). Since 2020, she is member of the board of the SP2P sub-division of the French Chemistry Society (SCF). Since 2021, she is co-leader of the theme "microfluidics-microreactor" of the CNRS Federation FERMAT FR 3089.
Après avoir obtenu un diplôme d’ingénieur en génie des procédés de l’environnement de l’INSA de Toulouse en 1999, Dr. K. Loubière a réalisé son doctorat à TBI (UMR INRA 792, UMR CNRS 5504) de l’INSA de Toulouse. Soutenu en novembre 2002, ce doctorat portait sur l’étude de la croissance et du détachement de bulles générées par des orifices rigides et flexibles (traitement des eaux usées), travaux qui ont été récompensés par le prix de la SFGP en 2003. Après deux post-doctorats (GEPEA UMR 6144, LGC UMR 5503), elle a été recrutée en 2005 au CNRS en tant que chargée de recherche, affectée au laboratoire GEPEA (UMR 6144), où elle s’est intéressée aux photobioréacteurs dédiés aux cultures microalgales. En 2009, elle a rejoint le laboratoire LGC de Toulouse, au sein du Département Sciences et Technologies des Procédés Intensifiés (STPI). En 2016, elle a obtenu son HDR (Toulouse INP) et devient directrice de recherche 2ème classe. Les activités de recherche de Dr. K. Loubière ont pour fil conducteur la compréhension des phénomènes de transferts et de leurs couplages au sein de réacteurs, et pour objectif de développer des méthodologies d’aide à la conception, à la conduite et/ou à l’extrapolation de procédés intensifiés. Au cours de la dernière décennie, elles ont été appliquées à des questions de recherche dédiées d’une part au transfert de masse (réactif ou non) à travers des interfaces gaz-liquide, le plus souvent dans des géométries confinées, et d‘autre part à l’ingénierie des réacteurs dédiés à la photochimie préparative et à leur intensification (flow photochemistry). Sur cette dernière thématique, elle a développé des approches combinant des expériences spécifiques dans des microréacteurs éclairés par des LED, et des outils de modélisation du génie des réacteurs photochimiques. Cette double méthodologie a été utilisée notamment pour mieux comprendre le couplage entre phénomènes (lumière, cinétique et phénomènes de transfert), pour acquérir des données cinétiques, pour définir des conditions opératoires optimales et des stratégies en vue du smart scale-up, et cela pour un spectre varié de synthèses photochimiques. En 2018, Dr. Karine Loubière a organisé l’Ecole Thématique CNRS dédié à la photochimie préparative (https://photochem.sciencesconf.org/ ). Un dernier volet de l’activité de recherche de Dr. Karine Loubière concerne l’analyse dimensionnelle et l’extension de son cadre théorique à des propriétés physiques variables. Dr. K. Loubière est co-auteure d’une cinquantaine d’articles dans des revues internationales, deux ouvrages, 2 brevets et de plus de 100 communications dans des congrès. Elle a co-encadré/dirigé 11 thèses, 4 post-doctorats et plus de 20 stagiaires. Elle exerce des activités d’enseignement régulières (~50 h/an) en écoles d’ingénieur ou en formation continue. Ses activités de recherche ont donné lieu à diverses collaborations nationales et internationales, au travers de projets financés par des institutions publiques (université, OSEO, ANR, EU) et des partenaires industriels (équipementiers ou end-users). De 2012 à 2016, elle a été membre élue de la section 10 du CoNRS, et de 2016 à 2021, elle en a été la secrétaire scientifique. Depuis 2020, elle est membre du bureau de la sous-division SP2P (Photochimie, Photophysique et Photosciences) de la SCF (Société Chimique de France). Depuis 2021, elle est co-animatrice au sein de la Fédération de Recherche FERMAT FR 3089 du thème «Microfluidique et Microréacteurs ».
