Les trois piliers de cette approche sont basés sur les calculs d'équilibre thermodynamique, la caractérisation des matériaux et le travail expérimental à l'échelle pilote. Ces activités sont majoritairement : * La modélisation thermodynamique, notamment les équilibres solides-liquides (FactSage, OLI system, Phreeqc) * L'étude de réactions solide-liquide, principalement dans les opérations de lixiviation et de précipitation de systèmes minéraux (typiquement dans des réacteurs à l'échelle 1L). * Les mesures des données d'équilibres (activité de l'eau, solubilité, densité) et le paramétrage de modèles (SIT, Pitzer, modèle quasi-chimique modifié) avec l'approche Calphad. * La caractérisation de phases solides et liquides avec des techniques complémentaires (ICP-OES, SEM, TGA, DSC, XRD, XPS) **Domaines d'application:** * Récupération de métaux à partir de sources primaires (chalcopyrite) et secondaires (notamment batteries usagées de plomb, nickel-métal hydrure et lithium-ion) * Systèmes hydrométallurgiques et pyrométallurgiques * Développement d'un réacteur de lixiviation innovant (voir cette [vidéo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0BH6Z8W5Y8)). * Capture et utilisation du carbone (carbonatation minérale) **Projets financés récents** 2023-2027 LULABAT - Flexible, sustainable and cost-effective innovative recycling process of spent lithium-ion batteries. We organize annual meetings and [webinars](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXERofiWm_zKriDD5Adk71zMoHu9K6y2A) (in French). # Research activities Over the past 10 years, my research activities have been dedicated to the development of combined and generic approaches aiming at the understanding, the implementation and the optimization of chemical and metallurgical processes. The three pillars of this approach are based on thermodynamic equilibrium calculations, materials characterisation and pilot-scale experimental work. The related activities concern : * Thermodynamics process modelling (FactSage, OLI system, Phreeqc) * Solid-liquid reactions, mainly leaching and precipitation of mineral systems (typically in 1L-scale reactors) * Equilibrium data measurements (water activity, solubility, density), model parametrization (Specific Ion Theory, Pitzer, Modified Quasichemical Model) and Calphad approach * Solids and liquid caracterizations with complementary techniques (ICP-OES, SEM, TGA, DSC, XRD, XPS) **Main applications to:** * Recovery of metals from primary (chalcopyrite) and secondary sources (especcialy lead, nickel-metal hydride and lithium-ion spent batteries) * Hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical systems * Development of an innovative leaching reactor (see this [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0BH6Z8W5Y8), in French with English subtitles). * Carbon capture and usage (mineral carbonation) **Recent research grants** 2023-2027 LULABAT - Flexible, sustainable and cost-effective innovative recycling process of spent lithium-ion batteries.
