Presentation

Laurent Stainier received his Ph.D. degree in 1996 from the University of Liège, in Belgium (where he also obtained his Master in Aerospace Engineering in 1992). After post-doctoral positions at University of California, San Diego, and California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, he became in 2001 FNRS Research Associate (Chercheur Qualifié) with the Belgian National Science Foundation, at the Aerospace and Mechanics department of the School of Engineering, University of Liège. In 2008, he took a Professor position at Ecole Centrale Nantes, in France, and joined the Research Institute of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (GeM, UMR 6183 CNRS). From 2012 to 2016, he served as director of GeM. Since 2017, he is heading the "Modelling & Simulation" research group at GeM. Prof. Stainier research interests revolve around mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of non-linear, dissipative, physical systems encountered in mechanical and aerospace engineering, with a specific emphasis on multi-scale, multi-physics aspects.
Laurent Stainier a obtenu en juin 1996 son doctorat en Sciences Appliquées de l'Université de Liège (Belgique), où il a également obtenu son diplôme d'ingénieur civil électricien-mécanicien (aérospatiale) en 1992. Après des séjours post-doctoraux à l'Université de Californie San Diego (UCSD) et au California Institute of Technology (Pasadena), il est devenu Chercheur Qualifié du Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique (FNRS), au département Aérospatiale & Mécanique de la Faculté des Sciences Appliquées de l'Université de Liège. En 2008, il a été recruté comme Professeur à l'École Centrale de Nantes (France), et a rejoint l'Institut de Recherches en Génie Civil et Mécanique (GeM, UMR 6183 CNRS-ECN-UN). De 2012 à 2016, il a été directeur du GeM. Depuis 2017, il est responsable de l'équipe "Modélisation & Simulation" au sein du GeM. Les travaux de recherche du Prof. Stainier concernent la modélisation mathématique et la simulation numérique des systèmes physiques non-linéaires, dissipatifs, rencontrés en ingéniérie mécanique et aérospatiale, avec un intérêt particulier pour les aspects multi-échelles et multi-physiques.
