Mary Schirrer is a sports sociologist and Associate Professor at Lorraine University :

She works on the inequalities between men and women, boys and girls, in physical activities, schools and university careers and the different perceptions of sportiness.
She is also developing work on the processes of socialisation (bodily, gendered, sporting) and the social construction of bodies (and sensibility), particularly through sensory learning and education, using a socio-phenomenological and ethnographic approach. She works on various fields: aquatic practices and freediving; physical education and yoga.
She is currently developing a project involving an international comparison of physical education in 4 countries (France, Japan, Norway and Quebec), through the filter of sensitive education of the body and sensitive education of the environment.
Key words and research themes: Social fabrication of sensitivity, bodily experience, perceptive know-how, gender equality, sportsmanship, apnea, environment, sensitivity, PE.
