Presentation
I am an economic sociologist who uses network science, agent-based computer simulation, and automated language processing tools to shed new light on the contemporary transformations of markets and organizations. My current research focuses on the digital platform economy, the global production networks of artificial intelligence, the role of human labor in the development of automation, digital inequalities, and the spread of disinformation. I am also interested in the ethics of data and artificial intelligence.
I am Directrice de Recherche (the equivalent of a full professor, but with research rather than teaching focus) at CNRS, and since 1 Sept. 2022, I have worked at Centre de Recherche en Economie et STatistique (CREST) on the Palaiseau campus just south of Paris. I am also an external member of Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Sciences du Numérique (LISN) in Orsay, which used to be my main affiliation (Jan 2016 - Aug 2022). In 2023, I was a by-Fellow of Churchill College at the University of Cambridge, and I still have Visiting Fellow status at the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy, also at Cambridge.
I teach Sociology of Social Networks at Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS); Social and Economic Network Science, Data Ethics, and Ethics and Responsibility in Data Science at ENSAE, all at master's level.
In October 2022, I was honored to be elected a Fellow of the European Academy of Sociology. I am a member of the scientific council of CASD, France's secure data access centre for research, and I am in the editorial boards of the journals Sociology , Platforms & Society, and Revue Française de Sociologie. I co-founded the International Network on Digital Labour (INDL) in 2019.
Until December 2015, I was Reader (the equivalent of a tenured Associate Professor) at the University of Greenwich, London, where I directed the doctoral programme of the Faculty of Business.
