Development Economist, Expert in Resilience, Sustainable Agriculture, and Monitoring & Evaluation
Dr. Yaya Pona is a Malian development economist, holding a PhD in Economic Analysis and Development Strategy and a DEA in Economic Analysis and Development Practices. With over thirteen years of experience in managing multi-donor and multi-country projects, he has recognized expertise in food security, resilient livelihoods, climate-smart agriculture, monitoring & evaluation, and knowledge management.
Currently serving as Regional MEAL Coordinator for the Sahel at Ayuda en Acción, he oversees the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of integrated programs in Mali and Niger, funded by major international donors such as AECID, the European Union, GENVAL, and other key partners. His role involves strategic coordination with governments, NGOs, and international agencies, as well as leading multidisciplinary teams in fragile contexts.
An active researcher, he has published several scientific articles and conference papers on rural resilience, solar irrigation adoption, natural resource management, and climate change adaptation strategies. Multilingual (French, English, Bambara), Dr. Yaya Pona combines analytical rigor, strategic leadership, and innovative thinking to design and implement sustainable solutions to development challenges, particularly in the Sahelian context.
